What is this program about?

The Thermador Diversity in Design Pipeline is an initiative to advance diversity in the design sector by supporting students from underrepresented communities through a national scholarship and mentorship program. In partnership with the Interior Design Society, the program will provide $10,000 tuition scholarships to (5) final-year college students as well as continued mentorship throughout the year from interior design professionals.  Additionally, recipients will receive IDS membership, access to trade events, and local and nationwide networking opportunities within the interior design community.

Why is Thermador creating this program for interior designers?

The design industry has recognized there is a need to address diversity and inclusion. As interior designers are a crucial cornerstone of its brand, Thermador seeks to help accelerate progress toward a more diverse design industry by empowering underrepresented students with scholarships, mentoring, and professional development opportunities to give them a strong start in the field.

How many scholarships are available? What is the selection process?

This program will support up to five students in their senior year at an accredited interior design program. The scholarship will include a financial package of $10,000 toward tuition and student membership with IDS, professional development, access to exclusive trade & training events, and partnership with interior design mentors. The five scholarships are not allocated across five representatives of five specific communities, but rather are based on the top five applications selected by the judges.

Applicants will be reviewed by a panel of judges, composed of experienced professionals in the design industry. The committee uses a detailed scoring rubric when reviewing applications to ensure fair results.
